Today’s (Dec 11) weather: Heavy showers above 75 mm, misty conditions expected

Colombo (LNW): Showers will occur at times in Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces, whilst showers or thundershowers being expected at several places in the other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m, the Department of Meteorology said in its daily weather forecast today (11).

Fairly heavy showers above 75mm are likely at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, the statement added, revealing that misty condition can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces in the morning.

The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Marine Weather:

Condition of Rain:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Pottuvil to Mannar via Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Kankasanthurai. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island particularly during the evening or night.
Winds:
Winds will be North-easterly in direction and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph.
State of Sea:
The sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
