  1. For the first time in Sri Lanka’s history, the President has conferred the Honour of Senior Instructing Attorneys-at-Law, as per Act No. 26 of 2023, to the following inaugural recipients: Dr. J.M. Swaminathan, Mr. D.M. Swaminathan, Mr. G.G. Arulpragasam Ms. H.R A.D.P. Goonetilleke, Ms. S.N.M. Gunawardena.
  2. State Minister for Plantation Industries and Mahaweli Development, Lohan Ratwatte emphasized that the Mahaweli Authority will not tolerate any illegal activities on its land. The state minister also noted that efforts to address issues concerning the lands owned by the Mahaweli Authority have been prioritized alongside the implementation of the “Urumaya” program.
  3. Philosopher, intellectual and political analyst Professor Nalin de Silva has passed away at the age of 79 years.
  4. A Sri Lankan traveler, was caught on video expressing his dismay at the On-Arrival Visa Counter officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport, after the official refused grant VISA to his partner. In the video, he is heard saying that Indian nationals were operating the VISA counter, and questioned why Sri Lankan officials were not engaged in that process.
  5. Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage today ordered the Directors of ‘OnmaxDT’ – a private firm believed to have been operating a pyramid scheme, to prepare and submit to the court a process to pay back the investors who have invested money in the company.
  6. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has added one more entity to the list of entities/ applications prohibited for their involvement in pyramid schemes. Issuing a notice, the Central Bank said that Windex Trading has been added to the list of nine (09) banned entities.
  7. The Joint Committee of Government Executive Officers launched a two-day token strike on Thursday (02) by reporting sick over several demands including the salary issue.
  8. The Export Development Board (EDB) says that Sri Lanka’s merchandise export performance in March 2024 amounted to USD 1,138.9 million, recording an increase of 9.77% compared to March 2023. Furthermore, it said that export performance in March 2024 increased by 7.51% compared to the preceding month, February 2024.
  9. The prices of Litro liquefied petroleum (LP) gas cylinders will be reduced with effect from midnight today (03), according to Litro chairman Muditha Peiris.
  10. The first day of the SLC T20 World Cup preparation tournament at R Premadasa Stadium was illuminated by Kusal Mendis’ stunning century, scoring 100* off just 50 balls, while Kamindu Mendis’ impressive 82 from 48 balls added to the excitement.
