Date:

July 14, Colombo (LNW): Public Security Minister Tiran Alles has issued a stern warning to senior police officers, including Western Province (South) Deputy Inspector General of Police Gayantha Marapana, over the interrogation of a tattoo studio owner in front of the media.

The footage in question shows DIG Marapana and other senior officers questioning the owner of the tattoo studio in Athurugiriya, where a recent shooting incident occurred.

The event resulted in the death of Surendra Wasantha Perera alias ‘Club Wasantha,’ and six others, including singer K. Sujeewa being injured.

Alles reported that DIG Marapana has apologised to him and assured that such incidents will not be repeated.

In response, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has released a new directive instructing all police officers to refrain from broadcasting suspects’ statements to the media.
