SLPP to Take Disciplinary Action Against Members Supporting Ranil Wickramasinghe in 2024 Presidential Election

Date:

this The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has decided to take strict disciplinary action against party members supporting Ranil Wickramasinghe in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. According to an SLPP spokesperson, letters notifying the relevant MPs of this decision will be dispatched shortly.

Following the implementation of these disciplinary measures, the party plans to revoke the membership of MPs who have defied the party’s official stance. This decision was made during a recent SLPP politburo meeting, where the party agreed to field its own candidate and suspend any member acting contrary to the party’s decisions, regardless of their position.

The SLPP politburo has faced mounting pressure over the past few weeks to take swift action against members opposing the party’s stance. Many SLPP activists have called for the immediate cancellation of these MPs’ party memberships. Consequently, the SLPP spokesperson confirmed that letters regarding disciplinary action will be sent out promptly.
