September 22, Colombo (LNW): Showers will occur at times in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, with several spells of showers being expected to occur in North-western province, the Department of Meteorology said in its daily weather forecast today (22).

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Batticaloa, and Ampara districts during the evening or night.

Mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere.

Strong winds about (40-45)kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central, North-western and Southern provinces and in Matale and Monaragala districts.

Condition of Rain:
Showers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Galle.
Winds:
Winds will be Westerly or South-westerly in direction and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai and from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
State of Sea:
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar will be rough at times. The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai and from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle will be fairly rough at times.
