Atmospheric conditions favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of island

September 26, Colombo (LNW): The atmospheric conditions are getting favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island for the next few days starting tomorrow (27), and several spells of showers, therefore, will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, the Department of Meteorology said in its daily weather forecast today (26).

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Mullaitivu district during the evening or night.

Strong winds about (40-45)kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Matale, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Condition of Rain:
Showers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Galle.
Winds:
Winds will be Westerly or South-westerly in direction and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from  Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.
State of Sea:
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times. The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar will be fairly rough at times.
