National understanding necessary. Otherwise no country in the next few months: Ranil (VIDEO)

Date:

Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe speaking to a party promotion event held in Kirulapone yesterday (13) noted that a national understanding has to be made in the face of the prevailing economic crisis.

“Last week, the government allowed the floating of Rupee. There was a huge dollar deficit until recently. Due to the dollar deficit, we were not able to purchase commodities. As a solution, the government, the Central Bank floated the Rupee. But the Rupee itself is not only floating but is also being depreciated by a ripple. It has not been appreciated yet. In the backdrop, our problems will not end here. Remember that. In this July, we have another debt to US$01 dollar to be settle. These are the severe problems we have. The IMF report has been given to the government. In fact, I hope we that receive this report before the discussion due in the upcoming week about the country’s economic situation. A government change is not in our interest. First the current situation has to be solved. Otherwise we may not have a country in the next couple of months. What is needed is ‘not‘ a national government. There is ‘no use‘ of national governments. Then it may be said that there is a struggle for ministries. What is needed now is a national understanding. That is what we should do first,” he said.
