Former Colombo Councillor arrested over alleged threats in land dispute

Date:

March 29, Colombo (LNW): Former Colombo Municipal Councillor Kithsiri Rajapaksa was taken into police custody yesterday (28) night following allegations of issuing threats and making derogatory remarks against a property owner and his daughter in Dematagoda.

The arrest follows a complaint regarding a land dispute on Kent Road, where Rajapaksa, reportedly accompanied by a group of government officials, is accused of verbally intimidating the homeowner and his daughter.

Authorities claim that during the altercation, he issued death threats, escalating tensions over the contested property.

Police sources confirmed that Rajapaksa, the son of the well-known figure ‘Maradane Choppe,’ has been detained pending further investigation.

He is expected to be presented before the Aluthkade Courts Complex today (29), where legal proceedings will determine the next course of action.
