May 07, LNW(Colombo): Former Finance Minister and UNP parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has launched a fresh parliamentary offensive against the Central Bank, accusing Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe of operating with impunity while refusing to answer 11 outstanding questions posed by the parliamentary body.

Raising a question of privilege, Karunanayake expressed deep frustration that the CBSL has failed to provide proper responses.

The UNP lawmaker stressed the urgency of the situation, insisting that Parliament must understand the direction the country is heading before further damage is inflicted upon the banking sector.

Karunanayake has consistently challenged what he terms the “high hand approach” of the Central Bank under Dr. Weerasinghe.

His remarks come as LNW previously reported that Dr. Weerasinghe has been out of the country for a considerable period, leaving the CBSL’s leadership and accountability under growing scrutiny amid multiple financial scandals.
