October 13, Colombo (LNW): Former minister and sitting MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake has been remanded until October 23, 2026 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court as an investigation continues into allegations of bribery linked to phosphate exports.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama issued the remand order after considering submissions made by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and the politician’s legal representatives.

Dassanayake was brought before the court by officers of the Bribery Commission following his arrest yesterday (12). The arrest took place after he appeared before the commission to provide a statement in connection with the inquiry.

Investigators are probing allegations that Dassanayake sought Rs. 8.1 million from three selected companies in return for helping them export phosphate without adhering to the prescribed procedures and securing the required export licences.
