Buddhist Monks’ Freedom March Enters Fourth Day, Heads Towards Nittambuwa

October 13, Colombo (LNW): The nationwide foot march led by Buddhist monks in support of imprisoned Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero and the protection of Buddhist clergy’s religious rights entered its fourth day today (13).

The procession, organised under the banner of the “Justice for the Robe – National Pledge Offering and Freedom March”, began on 10 October near the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. Organisers intend to bring the march to Colombo by 15 October, travelling through several towns along the route.

The planned journey includes stops in Warakapola, Nittambuwa and Kadawatha as participants continue their appeal for justice for Gnanasara Thero and raise concerns about the religious rights and freedoms of Buddhist monks.

Today’s leg is scheduled to begin in Warakapola and conclude in Nittambuwa, with the procession continuing towards the capital over the coming days.
