Increased rainfall due to low-pressure area in development: Heavy falls about 100 – 150 mm may occur (Oct 13)

October 13, Colombo (LNW): A low-pressure area may form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal today (13). Under the influence of this system, an increase in rainfall is expected over the island and the deep and shallow sea areas around the island during the next few days from today.

The general public, as well as the naval and fishing communities, are requested to be attentive to the future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in most parts of the island.

Heavy falls about (100-150) mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces.
Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in the other areas of the island.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning.

Marine Weather:

Condition of Rain: Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas around the island.

Winds: Winds will be North-easterly or variable. Wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.

State of Sea: Sea areas around the island will be slight or moderate.

Temporarily strong gusty winds (60-70 kmph) and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
