October 13, Colombo (LNW): Former State Minister and ex-MP Ashok Abeysinghe has reportedly stepped down from every position he held within the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), with his resignation taking effect from October 12.

In a letter addressed to party leader and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Abeysinghe confirmed his decision to relinquish several senior responsibilities within the party and its affiliated organisations.

His departures include the posts of SJB Deputy Secretary, Kurunegala Chief Organiser, President of the Samagi Sewaka Sangamaya and Trade Union Coordinating Secretary to the Opposition Leader. He has also resigned from the party’s Executive Committee.

Reflecting on his political association with Premadasa, Abeysinghe expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside him, both during their time in the United National Party (UNP) and after the establishment of the SJB.

He also acknowledged the support and opportunities he had received from Premadasa throughout their political relationship, while extending his best wishes to the party for its future activities.
