Several districts to witness showery conditions: Mainly dry weather to prevail (July 09)

July 09, Colombo (LNW): Several spells of showers will occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, the Department of Meteorology said today (09).

A few showers will occur in North-western province.

Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.

Strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the Central hills, North-central, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Hambantota, Trincomalee and Mannar districts.

Marine Weather:

Condition of Rain: A few showers will occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Galle via Colombo.

Winds: Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from, Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island.

State of Sea: The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from, Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island may be fairly rough at times.

The wave height may increase about (2.0 – 3.0) meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo.
