The Stadiumgama Housing Complex, comprising 1,000 housing units for low-income urban residents in Colombo, has been fully completed and will be officially handed over to beneficiaries in September, the Ministry of Urban Development has announced.

Located on Sirimavo Bandaranaike Mawatha in Colombo 14, the housing project was implemented by the Urban Development Authority (UDA) with financial assistance from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) at a cost of Rs. 9.85 billion.

Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara conducted a field inspection of the complex on Thursday (16) to review its facilities ahead of the relocation of residents.

The development consists of four residential blocks—A, B, C and D—each comprising 14 floors, and includes a range of community facilities such as a community hall, day-care centre, pre-school, medical centre, Grama Niladhari office, police post, service and maintenance unit, children’s park, public market and 20 commercial outlets for business activities.

Speaking during the inspection, Deputy Minister Gunasekara said housing units would be allocated to the most suitable beneficiaries in accordance with Government policy, without discrimination based on political affiliation, ethnicity, religion or region.

The Ministry said the project is aimed at improving housing conditions for low-income urban communities while providing access to essential public services and modern community facilities.
