July 19, Colombo (LNW): The Sri Lanka Police Information Technology Division has introduced a dedicated online platform to assist devotees travelling to the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya Esala Perahera by helping them locate parking facilities throughout the festival period, which runs from July 15 to 30, 2026.
The new portal provides live updates on parking space availability across Kataragama town, enabling visitors to identify the nearest available parking area before arriving. It is also integrated with Google Maps, allowing users to access directions and select routes designed to avoid heavy traffic and reduce travel delays.
In addition to parking information, the website features the locations and contact details of emergency service points, with map integration to help visitors quickly reach assistance if required during the festivities.
According to Police, the digital initiative has been introduced to improve traffic management, ease congestion and provide a more convenient experience for the large number of pilgrims and visitors expected to attend the annual religious festival.
The online service is available at www.perahera.police.lk, where visitors can access real-time parking updates and other essential travel information before and during their journey.
