July 20, Colombo (LNW): The Attorney General has informed the Supreme Court that legal proceedings have already been initiated in the District Court to recover unpaid taxes from liquor manufacturing companies that have failed to meet their tax obligations.
The disclosure was made today when a Fundamental Rights petition, which calls for the recovery of outstanding tax dues from defaulting liquor manufacturers, came up for hearing before the Supreme Court.
Appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, the Additional Solicitor General told the court that the necessary legal measures had been set in motion to pursue the recovery of the unpaid revenue through the appropriate judicial process.
