August 02, Colombo (LNW): The Department of Examinations has announced a temporary prohibition on tuition classes, revision seminars and a range of examination-related activities in the lead-up to the 2026 Grade 5 Scholarship and G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examinations, as part of efforts to safeguard the integrity of the examination process.
The restrictions will take effect from 12.00 midnight on August 04 for candidates sitting the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination, while the ban for the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination will begin at 12.00 midnight on August 05. The measures will remain in force until the respective examinations have concluded.
This year’s G.C.E. Advanced Level examination is scheduled to run from August 10 to September 05 at 2,532 examination centres nationwide. Meanwhile, the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination will be conducted on August 09 at 2,723 centres across the country.
The regulations, introduced under Section 22 of the Public Examinations Act, prohibit the organisation of tuition classes, revision programmes, workshops, seminars and similar activities specifically aimed at examination candidates during the restricted period. They also outlaw the preparation, printing, distribution or circulation of predicted question papers and any printed or digital material containing examination questions or closely resembling them, including posters, leaflets, banners and online content.
The Department cautioned that any person, educational institution or organisation found breaching the regulations could face prosecution under the Public Examinations Act. It stressed that the restrictions are intended to ensure fairness and prevent any attempt to undermine the credibility of the national examinations.
Members of the public have also been encouraged to assist the authorities by reporting suspected violations to the nearest police station, Police Headquarters, or directly to the Department of Examinations via its 1911 hotline or the School Examinations Organisation and Results Branch.
