August 03, Colombo (LNW): Due to the prevailing heavy rainfall and current weather conditions, the administration of the University of Peradeniya has decided to temporarily suspend all academic activities and examinations until further notice.
However, essential services of the university will continue uninterrupted. The administration has informed that students who can safely travel to their hometowns are permitted to leave.
On the other hand, students who are unable to return home due to the bad weather conditions can remain at the university hostels by informing the university hostel administration, except for those staying at the “Sarasavi Medura” hostel.
Furthermore, instructions have been issued to the hostel authorities to accommodate and maintain necessary records for students currently staying in high-risk private boarding locations if they choose to come to the university hostels for safety.
The university explicitly emphasises that no student will be forced to leave the hostels. The University of Peradeniya administration requests the entire university community to follow safety guidelines and act responsibly until the weather conditions return to normal.
