August 03, Colombo (LNW): A woman has died and three others remain missing after a mound of earth collapsed onto a house in the Polpitiya area of Hatton, according to the Police.

Initial reports indicated four individuals were missing following the collapse. Emergency response teams and police have launched a search and rescue operation at the site to locate the missing individuals. Search efforts are currently ongoing despite the hazardous conditions.

The Disaster Management Centre and local authorities are closely monitoring the situation across the affected area as severe weather continues to impact several regions in the hill country.

This latest tragedy follows an incident in Solankanda, Nawalapitiya, where a 65-year-old man lost his life after an earth embankment collapsed onto his property due to the prevailing heavy rainfall.
