August 10, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam has been directed to report to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) in connection with remarks he made about the Inspector General of Police.
Kariyawasam is scheduled to appear before investigators at 10.30 am today (10), following a formal notice issued by the CCIB.
The inquiry centres on comments attributed to the SLPP General Secretary in relation to an alleged threat involving the IGP. Authorities have treated the matter as sufficiently serious to warrant an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the remarks.
Kariyawasam, however, has rejected any suggestion that he intended to make a threatening statement, maintaining that his comments had been misunderstood or taken out of context.
The summons comes as law enforcement authorities continue to examine statements concerning senior police officials, with investigators expected to seek clarification from Kariyawasam regarding the circumstances in which his remarks were made and their intended meaning.
