The first coal shipment for the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai for the second quarter of the year has arrived in Puttalam, with unloading scheduled to commence yesterday evening following quality assurance tests by the relevant authorities.
Energy, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Aruna Karunathilake visited the power station yesterday to review the coal supply situation and inspect the plant’s operations.
Following the inspection, the Minister said the power station has sufficient coal stocks to maintain electricity generation for the next few days until the newly arrived shipment is unloaded.
During the visit, Minister Karunathilake also met with the plant’s senior management and employees and expressed his appreciation for their commitment and dedication to keeping the power station operational during a challenging period.
He commended the staff for carrying out their duties with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to serving both the institution and the country.
