A Gazette notification has been issued imposing maximum retail prices on locally produced canned fish, with the new prices coming into effect from September 5, 2026.
Accordingly, the maximum retail price of a 155-gram can has been set between Rs. 220 and Rs. 260, while the maximum price for a 425-gram can will range from Rs. 510 to Rs. 600.
The notification, issued under Section 20(5) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 9 of 2003, states that no local manufacturer, packer, distributor or trader may sell, offer for sale or display for sale the specified varieties of canned fish at prices exceeding the stipulated maximum retail prices.
The order will take effect from September 5, 2026.
