September 17, Colombo (LNW): The corruption case brought by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) against former Navy Commander Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda and Yoshitha Rajapaksa was taken up before the Colombo High Court today (17).
Both accused, who are currently released on bail, were present in court when the matter was called, according to reports from the proceedings.
Following consideration of the submissions made by the parties, the court directed that the case proceed to a pre-trial conference, marking the next stage in the legal process.
CIABOC has accused the two of involvement in an alleged corruption offence linked to Yoshitha Rajapaksa’s selection for training at the Royal Naval College in the United Kingdom.
According to the allegations before the court, Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was sent to the British naval institution for training despite allegedly not meeting the qualifications required for the programme.
The case will now return before the Colombo High Court for the pre-trial conference, during which matters relating to the subsequent proceedings will be considered.
