The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has raided a business establishment in the Puttalam District following allegations that customers were charged Rs. 850 for a single photocopy.
The alleged incident gained significant attention on social media, prompting CAA investigation officers to inspect and raid the establishment on September 25.
According to the CAA, officers obtained evidence relating to alleged violations of consumer protection laws during the inspection.
The Authority said legal action is being prepared against the business and that proceedings are expected to be initiated before the relevant Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
The CAA regularly conducts market inspections and raids and takes legal action against traders found to have violated provisions of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
The Authority has urged consumers to report cases involving unfair pricing and other market irregularities through its hotline on 1977.
