Monks-Led Freedom March Set to Conclude in Colombo Today

October 15, Colombo (LNW): A nationwide campaign calling for the release of Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero is due to reach Colombo today (15), bringing to an end a multi-day procession organised under the leadership of the Maha Sangha.

The march, held under the banner of the ‘Justice for the Robe – National Pledge Offering and Freedom March’, began on 10 October at the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. Since then, participants have travelled through several towns, taking their message from the hill capital towards the commercial capital.

The procession passed through Kadugannawa, Kegalle, Warakapola and Nittambuwa before reaching Kadawatha yesterday (14), where the day’s journey came to a close.

Organisers are scheduled to resume the march from Kadawatha this morning, with Colombo serving as the final destination. The initiative has drawn attention to the organisers’ demand for the release of the Buddhist monk, with the capital expected to mark the culmination of the campaign.

The procession’s arrival in Colombo will conclude a journey spanning several days and multiple locations across the country.
