Court Grants Bail to Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and remanded over an ongoing investigation into the “Siriliya Saviya” account.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the bail order after considering submissions made by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing on behalf of the Bribery Commission, and lawyers representing Rajapaksa.

Rajapaksa was recently arrested over allegations that Rs. 10 million belonging to the National Savings Bank had been illegally transferred to the “Siriliya Saviya” organisation.
