October 29, Colombo (LNW): Esna Holidays, an established name in Sri Lanka’s travel sector, has acquired Mackinnons Travels from John Keells Holdings PLC, bringing one of the country’s longest-standing travel management businesses under the ownership of the diversified Esna Group.

The acquisition marks a significant development for Mackinnons Travels, which has built a strong presence in Sri Lanka’s travel and tourism industry over the past 55 years. Its longstanding operations and established industry connections have helped it earn recognition as a trusted provider of travel management services.

A key feature of the company’s business is its partnership with American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT), through which Mackinnons Travels operates as the organisation’s Travel Network Partner, or franchise partner, in Sri Lanka. This association dates back to 1979, when the company first became the local representative of American Express Travel.

Over the decades, Mackinnons Travels has developed extensive experience in managing travel requirements, establishing a reputation for professionalism, dependable service and quality solutions. Its portfolio caters to both corporate clients and leisure travellers, offering a range of services supported by longstanding relationships across the travel industry.

Previously operating under the John Keells Group, Mackinnons Travels will now continue its journey under the Esna Group following the transfer of ownership. The move represents a new chapter in the company’s history, bringing its established legacy together with the backing of a diversified business group.

The acquisition also highlights continued activity within Sri Lanka’s travel sector, where established businesses with longstanding client relationships and international partnerships remain important to the delivery of corporate and leisure travel services.

Esna Group Chairman Eshana De Silva (second from left) and John Keells Holdings PLC Deputy Chairperson and Group Finance Director Gihan Cooray exchange the agreement between the two companies. Esna Holidays Managing Director Johnson Francis and JKH President Transportation Industry Zafir Hashim are also present
