Following is the letter issued today by the Prime Minister’s Media Secretary Rohan Weliwita – who dismissed media reports that Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned as Prime Minister – from the Prime Minister’s Office,
Finance and Justice Minister Ali Sabri has also resigned.
He has submitted his resignation letter to the President.
Early reports on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigning from his post effective immediately were denied by Rohan Weliwita, the Prime Minister’s Media Secretary.
However, below is a press release under the official letterhead of the Prime Minister revealing Rajapaksa’s resignation.

The Kandy branch of GotaGoGama, a hypothetical village built in objection to the Rajapaksa-led administration, has been attacked by pro-government protesters.
The Rajapaksa devotees attacked the anti-government protesters and damaged the tents at the site.

All sectors including the Health Sector will be entering an island wide strike action from midnight today (09) in response to the brutal assault launched at the GotaGoGame protest ground in Galleface by pro-government protesters.
Islandwide curfew has been imposed, in response to the tense situation occurred upon the assault launched by pro-government protersters in GalleFace, Colombo.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in a tweet urged the general public to exercise restraint and stressed that violence only begets violence, as pro-government protesters launched a massive assault at GotaGoGama, a hypothetical village established in GalleFace in objection to the current President and the administration, leading to an islandwide curfew.
“The economic crisis we’re in needs an economic solution which this adminstration is committed to resolving,” the Prime Minister said.
Postal workers have decided to launch an islandwide strike action in response to the assault launched at GotaGoGama in GalleFace by pro-government supporters. The strike action will be launched effective immediately.
In addition, protests are being launched across the country condemning the assault.
Meanwhile, lawyers and attorneys have launched a protest in front of the Hulftsdrop Court (Aluthkade) complex in Colombo in support to the GotaGoGama anti-government protesters, while medical officers, nurses and other officials of the Colombo National Hospital have also staged a protest.
