The minister said this during a discussion held on September 29 at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of the President’s Secretary Mr. Saman Ekanayake on the supply of fertilizer to meet the requirements of the Maha Season.
During this discussion chaired by Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera and State Minister for Agriculture Mohan Priyadarshana de Silva, the supply of organic and chemical fertilizers required for paddy farming and other agricultural activities in the Maha season, was discussed at length.

The Ministry of Agriculture has implemented a program to prevent the shortage of quality seed paddy required for paddy cultivation in the 2022/23 Maha season.
Seed paddy has been sown in 6,774.3 hectares this Yala season covering all nine provinces of the country including the Mahaweli Zone.
The Department of Agriculture has informed the Minister that steps have been taken to release 1,524 metric tons (MT) urea, 372.6 MT of TSP (Tipple Super Phosphate) and 406.5 MT of MOP (Muriate OF Potash) as required for the area of the paddy fields.
If seed paddy production is disrupted during the Yala season this year, it will be difficult to procure seed paddy for the 2022/23 Maha season. Therefore, these steps were taken to provide quality seed paddy to farmers, the Minister said.
Meanwhile, the private sector has already released 147,000 bushels of seed paddy required for seed paddy cultivation this Yala season.

The debate on the 22A postponed
The debate on the 22nd amendment draft of the Constitution was scheduled to begin today. However, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said this morning that the debate had to be postponed.
He mentioned that the reason for this is that the 22 opposition groups did not agree.
At the party leaders’ meeting held this afternoon, an agreement has been reached to postpone the debate on the 22nd constitutional amendment draft until the next parliamentary session.
The main reason for postponing the debate is the lack of agreement even within the ruling party MPs group regarding certain matters included in Article 22.

Dayasiri defaults 06lakh to CEB!
It is reported that Dayasiri Jayasekara, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP), Member of Parliament, is also at the forefront of the people’s representatives who defrauded the Electricity Board.
From 2016 until now, the electricity bill of the house where Dayasiri Jayasekara resides, has not been settled and its amount to be paid is Rs. 637,448.38 .This is stated in a letter sent to the MP by Hemantha Ranasinghe, Deputy General Manager of Ceylon Electricity Board in Colombo and also he informs to settle this amount before October 15.
The Electricity Board also informs that if the payment is not made before the relevant date, the electricity will be cut off without any prior notice.
The person who resided before handing over this house to Mr. Dayasiri Jayasekara has also not paid the bills to the Electricity Board and the unpaid amount is 494,739.69 rupees.
Accordingly, the unsettled amount of only one house provided for public representatives has exceeded one million rupees. In recent days it was reported that more than 50 former and current representatives have not paid the bills for the electricity they used.
If the common people who use 40-50 units of electricity per month do not pay their bills for two or three months, the electricity board is anxious to cut off the supply simultaneously, though millions of public representatives default on paying the bills, It’s doubtful about the reason for providing them the electricity for six or seven years without cutting off the supply.
