Government Holds Talks with Japanese Business Delegation on Maritime Investment

July 07, Colombo (LNW): Senior government representatives met with a visiting delegation from Japan’s Mitsui & Co. Ltd on Monday (06) to discuss opportunities for expanding cooperation in Sri Lanka’s maritime and logistics sectors.

The delegation was headed by Romesh David, Chief Executive Officer of APM Terminals Bangladesh, and Steen Knudsen, Chief Executive Officer of South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT). The discussions focused on strengthening commercial partnerships and exploring new avenues for investment and collaboration in port-related infrastructure and logistics services.

According to Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath, the meeting underscored Sri Lanka’s commitment to enhancing international partnerships in the maritime industry and positioning the country as a competitive regional logistics hub.

Also participating in the discussions were Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilake and Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof, who serves as the President’s Special Envoy for Foreign Investment. Their participation reflected the government’s broader efforts to attract foreign investment and promote long-term development in the ports and shipping sector.
