Former NOCSL Chief Suresh Subramaniam Passes Away

July 16, Colombo (LNW): Former President of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL), Suresh Subramaniam, has passed away, bringing to a close a distinguished career in sports administration that spanned several decades.

Subramaniam led the NOCSL from 2018 until the conclusion of his second term in 2026. Having secured re-election in 2021, he guided the country’s Olympic movement through a period of significant institutional change, with a strong emphasis on governance, transparency and administrative reform before stepping down earlier this year.

A respected figure within Sri Lanka’s sporting fraternity, he was widely acknowledged for his commitment to strengthening the administration of Olympic sports.

Throughout his tenure, he was actively involved in initiatives aimed at improving governance standards and enhancing the operations of the National Olympic Committee.

His contribution to the development of sport and Olympic administration earned him the respect of athletes, officials and sporting organisations alike.

His remains are currently being kept at 2nd Cross Street, Dabare Mawatha, Narahenpita.

The final rites for Subramaniam will be held tomorrow (17) at 3.00 p.m. at the Borella Public Cemetery.
