July 23, Colombo (LNW): Several liquor manufacturers in Sri Lanka have increased the retail prices of selected alcoholic beverages, attributing the latest revisions to rising fuel costs and higher distribution expenses.
According to industry sources cited in local media reports, the price of a 750ml bottle of one of the country’s most widely purchased arrack brands has been increased by Rs. 20, while the price of a half bottle has risen by Rs. 10.
Premium and aged arrack varieties have also become more expensive, with the price of a bottle of old arrack increasing by Rs. 50 as producers adjust their pricing to reflect escalating operating costs.
Imported and locally distributed spirits have not been spared from the revisions. Prices of whisky and brandy have reportedly been increased by Rs. 100 per bottle, with manufacturers pointing to mounting transport and logistics costs as a key factor behind the decision.
Despite the adjustments across several spirit categories, producers have opted to keep beer prices unchanged for the time being. Industry observers say the decision may be aimed at maintaining competitiveness in the market and limiting the impact on consumers.
